Constructive Anatomy
Published in Paperback by Dover Pubns (January, 1976)
Author: George Brant Bridgman
Average review score:

Still the best anatomy book around
I have nearly ten anatomy books and this is the one I grab for most when I need to solve an anatomy problem while drawing or sketching.

For the most part, Bridgman first simplifies complex anatomy problems into simple structures before exploring the muscle patterns into more complex detail. This allows the artist to see the particular anatomy problem as a proportional mass rather than a complex network of muscle fibers. For me, this makes the human anatomy much more accessible.

For instance, he will take the torso and break it down into simple objects like cubes, triangles, and planes, illustrate them in their proper proportions, and then move forward into to more precise detail.

I find this book not just educational but as a great reference as well.

best value of any book i've ever purchased!
this book is by far the best on figure drawing that i've seen. bridgman is an absolute master of the human form, and he breaks everything down into simple shapes to help even the novice. his realistic and beautiful drawings are anatomically accurate, and quite nice to look at! buy any of bridgman's books, including the brilliant "book of 100 hands", and you'll be treating yourself to an extremely inexpensive lesson from a true master.

Wow!
Lemme tell you something right now. This is one sweet little book! It gets two stars right off the bat because it's really cheap(unlike Hogarth). For a student who doesn't have an income, this really helps out. When I bought this this book, I thought I knew a little about human anatomy. Well, put it this way, I was wrong! This book is PACKED with anatomy! Thanks to it, I've been getting alot better. Now I'm starting to do a real study of this book, and I don't think I'll be disappointed.

Alias Smith and Jones (The Tremaine Tradition)
Published in Paperback by Harlequin (01 January, 2003)
Author: Kylie Brant
Average review score:

Excellent Characters, Wonderful Story!!
Analiese Tremaine may look and act like your typical "blonde," but she is anything but.... When Ana's brother goes missing she decides that she will be the one to re-trace his steps and try to find him before his cover is blown. She hacks into his computer and finds a trail that leads to Jones.

Jones takes one look at "Ann" and decides she's trouble, but money does talk and he's pretty low on funds. He can't help but watch out for her because he thinks she's ditzy. The run together through the jungle, climb down cliffs and sail home on a garbage barge....all for Sam Tremaine....

This story is wonderfully written by Kylie Brant. In a world where the series romance can sometimes become lackluster, her story shines through. I highly enjoyed the interaction with Jones and Ana...he's stoic and she's sassy...wonderful by-play between them all through the story! You can't miss this one!

Heart throbbing intensity -- Very highly recommended
Acting as a courier gives Analiese Tremaine's life a bit of a thrill, but nothing like the dangerous missions her brothers pursue. But when brother Sam goes missing, Analiese assumes a new identity, Ann Smith, and follows a name in her brother's files to a reclusive man known only as Jones. Unfortunately, painful memory and betrayal has driven Jones into a self appointed life of seclusion, and he does not welcome Ann's intrusion.

For five years Jones has been out of the business, making a living running charters and finding sex in the arms of women who expect nor more than he does. Ann's attempt to charter his boat irritates him, especially when she manipulates a booking into going someone else. Soon he finds his good sense overridden by a need to protect her from peril that send them into plunging into a jungle adventure that promises life-threatening danger.

Author Kylie Brant once again proves her ability to create an intriguing romance filled with extreme intensity in ALIAS SMITH AND JONES. These finally realized characters come vividly alive as Ann refuses to allow Jones' difficult nature to thwart her self-appointed mission to find her brother. Indeed, years of dodging her over protective brothers prepare her well for the irascible Jones. Further, Ann's powder puff surface conceals of woman of surprising depth and resiliency; something Jones will learn the hard way. A fast paced plot guaranteed to keep the blood pounded and tension on high, ALIAS SMITH AND JONES comes very highly recommended.

Fast paced action!
When I first started this book, I almost gave up. Ana came across as just a little too naive, and it was almost painful to read her first interactions with Jones. Boy am I glad I persevered! The book really took off, with a lot of action set at a good pace. Ana's most saving grace is her glib remarks to the stoic Jones and the fact that is able to take care of herself. I would highly recommend this book, and will be adding this author to my favorites list.

Entrapment The Tremaine Tradition
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Harlequin (May, 2003)
Author: Kylie Brant
Average review score:

Stunning intensity - Very highly recommended
Only ten thieves in the world have the skills CIA agent Sam Tremaine needs. Only one regularly targets Oppenheimer, to the extent he has to buy an insurance agency in order to cover his own losses. Sam may not know the beautiful thief's agenda, but he is willing to do whatever it takes to bring down the international criminal Oppensheimer, even if he has to hire a thief.

Juliette Morris has a plan to deprive Oppenheimer of all his treasures before fulfilling her ultimate goal of revenge. Sam's interference and identification of her only detours her plan, but nothing will make her give it up. When Sam kidnaps Juliette's grandmother to assure cooperation, the stakes escalate. Worse, both she and Sam are aware of the impossible nature of their attraction, yet denying it seems to only add fuel to the flames.

An eloquent and fabulously realized romantic intrigue, ENTRAPMENT belongs on the reader's keeper shelf. Once again Kylie Brant brings her characteristic flair for creating memorable characters and a fast paced plot, as complex ethical issues lend a background of suspense and emotional depth that has become the author's trademark. Juliette takes pride in her unorthodox profession, financing her vendetta with stolen goods that are taken from her ultimate target. Sam's recent leg injury lends him just the right level of vulnerability to highlight Juliette's extraordinary strengths. If ever opposites attracted in an unorthodox mix readers will adore, it is here! ENTRAPMENT comes very highly recommended.

Awesome book
Sam Tremaine was a CIA agent with a secret mission. However, to accomplish his goal he needed someone with special, illegal skills. For months Sam tracked his target, Juliette Morris, until he knew all he could find out about her. Then he made contact during the consulate party.

Juliette was bent on revenge, ten years in the making. The end was in sight! Then Sam cut-in during one of her dances and began his blackmail. He knew her secret identity and planned to use it to gain her help in catching an international criminal. Worse, she found herself falling for him. ...This is the second Tremaine sibling (out of four). I found it to be even better than the first. Sam and Juliette are very much alike and very dangerous to their enemies. They make quite a team!

Author Kylie Brant gave brief cameos to characters from "ALIAS SMITH & JONES" (the first sibling's story), as well as, to Cade who will be the hero in the next Tremaine story titled ""TRUTH OR LIES" (Aug. 03). Therefore, fans of Kylie Brant will feel as if they are a part of this awesome family. This story could not have been more exciting! Highly recommended!

Hard to Tame (Silhouette Intimate Moments, No. 1125)
Published in Paperback by Silhouette (January, 1902)
Author: Kylie Brant
Average review score:

A nail biting, suspenseful romance
With the cunning of true malevolence, Victor Mennan's minions stalk Sara Parker. Every few months she changes her identity, moves to a new city, and radically alters her appearance. She's become an expert at assuming false identities, never allowing her defenses to slip, and never ever allowing anyone too close. Then she meets Nick Doucet at the restaurant where she waitresses. One glance and she knows he's dangerous, not only because he may be a threat to her physical safety, but also because she knows he can slip past the defenses of her heart. And she's very tired of running away from danger.

Nick sees beyond their obvious differences, easily recognizing the similarities he shares with Sara. He wonders if, like him, with every disguise does she leave behind a piece of her true self, or even if she knows who she is anymore. Sara has the ability to give hope that perhaps he hasn't lost his soul after all. He recognizes their kindred spirits, their shared resilience, and their absolute determination to survive impossible circumstances. He's intrigued by the blend of nervous waif and wary combatant. But Nick knows from brutal experience what happens if he lowers his defenses and gets to close to people involved in a case. If he looses his objectivity, people die.

The Charmed and Dangerous series by Kylie Brant ends with the thrilling HARD TO TAME, a nail biting, suspenseful romance filled with equal parts of danger to lives and danger to hearts. The series' unifying theme of danger from the menace of a deadly criminal boss reaches a stunning conclusion. Further, Nick is a bigger-than-life hero with a dark past in the Green Berets where he gained the knowledge and skill to hire out to those in need of his services. Sara's street smart, spunky, and his exact opposite. Together they make an explosive team. Very highly recommended.

Best of the series
I thought this was the best of the three book series. I am new to Kylie Brandt, and I really like her stories. She is very similiar to Carla Cassidy

Intermediate Algebra: A Functional Approach
Published in Hardcover by Addison-Wesley Pub Co (January, 1996)
Authors: Shoko Aogaichi Brant and Edward A. Zeidman
Average review score:

A wonderful way to incorporate technology into learning
This book is a terrific introduction to learning algebra with the graphing calculator. The problems are clear cut and extremely beneficial to my understanding. I recommend this textbook to anyone who wants a logical, well-organized, and patterned approach to learning algebra.

A solid stepping stone on my way to calculus.
I was a returning college student and math was not my best subject, it is now! This book presents material using believable "Real World" problems. The authors are also believers in the real world of calculator, refering to the power graphing calculators to provide the students with a visiual concept of the numbers behind the problems. If you are looking for the sterile texts (If Johnnie has 4 apples and Jane has 3 ...) you are used to this is not it. It is fresh, new and up to date

Mohawk Blood: A Native American Quest
Published in Hardcover by Globe Pequot Pr (May, 1995)
Authors: Mike Baughman and Michael Baughman
Average review score:

Very good book
See the previous review. He/she describes it in a nutshell. Just wanted to chime in that I had read this book and loved it. I discovered this author through another book, which was amazing: A River Seen Right. Highly recommend both books.

Some books stay with you after you have read them.
This one has stayed with me. As a nature-lover and one interested in Native American culture, I walked away from this book feeling I gained something by reading it. It is neither dense nor preachy, so it makes for an easy read. _Mohawk Blood_ is written by a descendent of the great Mohawk leader Joseph Brant, but the focus of the book is not past battles or politics. Rather, almost in a short story form, the author shares some timeless lessons learned from Brant, describes interaction with the natural world in a breathtaking manner, and touches on the socio-economic status of Native families. I could not put this book down.

Outlaws: The Illustrated History of the James-Younger Gang
Published in Hardcover by Elliott & Clark Pub (July, 1997)
Author: Marley Brant
Average review score:

A biography of of the West's most notorious outlaw gang
The lives of Jesse James and Cole Younger and their brothers are shrouded in myths created by Nineteenth Century journalists who celebrated their deeds and by themselves through the lies they told to cover their tracks and to excuse their crimes. Brant's book attempts to separate reality from legend, covering the James and Younger brothers from birth to death. Her book is not without sympathy for her subjects, but it is by no means an apologia for their manifold sins. Although Brant rightfully sees the origin of their criminal activities in Civil War guerilla warfare which carried over into the atmosphere of bitter reprisals following the war, she also chronicles their slide into simple greed and thrill-seeking. This volume is generous in its presentation of photographs of the outlaw gang, their associates, enemies, and victims, and of the places where they operated.

Excitement, adventure and human drama
Marley Brant is an excellent author, if you want to know the truth about Jesse James, his brother Frank, and their partners in crime you must read this fabulous biography. Brant sticks to this colorful history of the Outlaws in an enormously entertaining writing style. The James and Younger boys are no longer just footmates in some dusty history books but still live in the minds. The real life adventures of these men were more amazing than the fictional accounts that abounded even during their lifetimes. Their exploits in life made them immortal in death ! Marley Brant perseveres in trying to reconcile all the accrued information and misinformation with the historical facts of the James-Younger saga. This book will make you want to travel to Missouri to visit the area as it was during the civil war until 1916. A must !

The Von Hoffmann Bros.' Big Damn Book of Sheer Manliness
Published in Paperback by General Pub Group (May, 1998)
Authors: Todd Von Hoffmann, the Von Hoffmann Brothers, Brant Von Hoffmann, Colby Allerton, Todd Von Hoffman, and Brant Von Hoffman
Average review score:

Testpsterone drips from its pages!
As the only female in the house, I read this book in self defense. Sure enough John Wayne, poker dogs ( my son collects them) beer, sports and cars are all in here. What I like is that the VonHofann Brothers don't take themselves all that seriously-- ps my boys also bowl and fight over who will drive the truck. This book sums up modern day manliness!

A great starter kit for those who have yet to understand.
I recently bought this book for my soon to be seventeen year old son. On my way home, two of my friends reviewed it with me over a beer (one a Navy jet pilot the other an Oxford graduate). We howled all the way throught the book (and bought another couple of rounds of course). My friends both went out and got copies of the book for themselves, sons and wifes.

The next day my youngest brother (I have six of them) and I put together a manliness starter kit for my son's birthday present using ideas from the book. Who couldn't use a can of WD-40, 10 of the movies from the best movies of all times list (Spartacus, The Magnificent Seven, Seargent York, Animal House, Blazing Saddles, etc.), baked beans, Blackcat Fireworks and more? We packed it all in a big Cory's Snail and Slug Death box and wrapped it in brown paper and rope. I'm not sure my son appreciated all the fun we had doing it, but he will one day.

This book is a real hoot, and in our experience pretty damn accurate. Let the male bonding begin.

The Perfect Father's Day Present
I swear on a jar of Lawry's Lemon Pepper that every boy should be given a copy of this book upon entering puberty. Women have "Our Bodies, Our Selves", and we have THIS!

I gave a copy of this book to my father, who rarely if ever reads books at all, and he read it cover to cover, three times!

Everything that is TRULY masculine is here! From classic manly films ("Sparticus", "The Quiet Man", "Rollerball", "Blade Runner", "Citizen Kane", "Road Warrior (Mad Max 2)"), to recipies for salt steak and "colon cleaner chili" (burns going in AND coming out!), to detailed info on booze, fighter planes, cards, catapults and spud cannons, Nevada's (legal) brothels, fishing, Coleman camping supplies, Swiss Army knives, guns, cigars, WD-40 and (gotta love the name) Corry's Slug and Snail Death (!), this book has it ALL! There's even biographies on John Wayne, Victor McLaglen, the greats who played in John Ford's films, and even Cassius Marcellus Coolidge (the genius who painted the poker playing dogs)!

If this book had a chest, it would have hair and tattoos! It's like every bar-room boast, "first dirty joke you've ever heard", boy scout camp fire story, beer commercial and pick-up truck in one!

So, come on! Park the amphibious 4X4 in the garage, put down those power tools, fire up that BBQ grill, open a cold one, and read the most politically incorrect tome to grace a coffee table. By God, this book is a work of genius!

Fundamentals of Diagnostic Radiology
Published in Hardcover by Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins (15 January, 1999)
Authors: William E. Brant and Clyde A. Helms
Average review score:

Concise but not enough for residency.
Not a bad overview of most subjects, but some areas are lacking. The bone trauma subsection is particularly scant, excluding all of the fracture grading schemes. Additionally, while somewhat dedicated to differential generating, you don't really get a feel for what is actually common.

Fundamental of Diagnostic Radiology
This is the single excellent book for Radiology Residents and General Radiologists. Seperate sections on US and NM are the best parts of this book. CT Scan and MRI are dispersed with the General Radiology. If the authors create seperate sections of CT and MRI like US and NM in the next edition, the book will become the only perfect book in General Radiology. This book contains treasure of knowledge for the Radiology residents and racticing General Radiologists.

Great
The new version has an ultrasound section which is more extensive than the first edition. The book is sound and an excellent review. It is certainly the new review book as opposed to other texts. It is good for residents and practicing radiologists. I am finished with residency and fellowship and it is a handy reference book! (2nd edition)

The Human Machine: The Anatomical Structure and Mechanism of the Human Body
Published in Paperback by Dover Pubns (May, 1985)
Author: George Brant Bridgman
Average review score:

Great
After purchasing too many sub-par reference books on anatomy for artists, I highly recommend the Bridgeman books. This one stresses the hinges and joints of the body and how their bending and twisting movements affect the external shape of a figure. Nobody has studied the figure as long or as intensely as George Bridgeman and it shows in the superb illustrations, many apparantly constructed from memory. For economy of line and accurate sence of under-structure, the illustrations can't be beat. Incidently, "Bridgman's Complete Guide to Drawing From Life" incorperates much of the above book, along with several others, and is a better buy. (It's also a larger format book!)

I also recommend "The Human Figure: An Anatomy for Artists" by David K. Rubins.

Superb!
It's amazing, I haven't even begun to read it, I've only copied the pictures, and I'm already doing much, much better! Obviously, I intend to read the book, since it would make my work even better. This is one of the best anatomy books I've ever looked at. Even though I haven't read it yet, it's indespible. Five stars.

The best figure reference available
I am a commercial artist and an illustrator in training, after coming across a lot of artistic anatomy books over the years I say honestly that this and all the George Bridgman books are the best available. A couple of reasons for this are 1) his clear and totally accurate drawings and 2) he shows us muscle groups that act together rather than just naming every single muscle and leaving it at that. Also, he uses a very visual teaching method, showing the shapes of the muscle masses that are easy to remember. I would suggest that every beginner start with Mr. Bridgman.
